Objective

Objective The Canadian Arts Network wants to create a uniquely Canadian artistic experience.

The purpose of this on-line community is threefold. All functions are of equal importance to the promotion, growth, and success of this site and its members. One aspect is to foster an artistic community that is able to transcend the limitations of geography. Artists living in remote communities will be able to collaborate with artists in distant urban centres and possibly participate in otherwise inaccessible projects. Artists on one coast will have the opportunity to learn from, teach and exchange ideas with artists on the other. Having this centralized on-line community would facilitate artists becoming aware of one another. A second feature of this website is that it will create a very large virtual gallery that would span from the amateur to the professional, rivaling any existing collection available both in its expanse and its accessibility. It will be of significance and of value to anyone interested in art, from being viewed for basic appreciation to those utilizing it in pursuit of artistic theory and education, specifically because of the vast variety of the collection.

The third aspect of the site is that it allows for wide scale promotion of freelance artists to find contracts and also sell their pieces, again with the advantage of a much larger audience. This translates into a larger market, which would have otherwise been inaccessible, benefiting both artists and those requiring their services.

One distinct aspect of this site is that it is not for profit and is jointly owned by all of its members. It is not affected by corporate influence and is available to all of its visitors free of charge and censorship. The Canadian Arts Network focuses on the promotion of art without judgment of ability, and does not discriminate based on professional standing.

The one exception to the freedom from censorship that will be imposed on members will be self-imposed. For this purpose, any member’s work that is felt to be offensive (mainly for weeding out the possibility of pornographic or discriminative postings) will be put to a vote on a random selection of members. They will vote anonymously on whether the postings are acceptable and action will be taken based on the response.
